Errant councils ‘need support to avoid administration’

When provinces intervene it is too late, and then municipalities just make the same mistakes, says Salga


The flood of municipalities placed under administration can be prevented if provincial and national governments regularly support municipalities to address their particular challenges.

This is according to South African Local Government Association (Salga) chief operations officer Lance Joel, who claims regular monitoring could help provinces detect early warnings and provide much-needed support.
