After 18 months of antiretroviral treatment, vascular function deteriorates, study finds


It’s often said eyes are the window to the soul.

Stellenbosch University researchers have shown this may well be true with the latest study that tracks the eye’s arteries to monitor the health of the heart, showing a link between HIV and cardiovascular diseases.

The EndoAfrica study has been following more than 800 HIV-positive and HIV-negative people in the Western Cape, Eastern Cape and North West since 2016. ..
