Madibeng residents say they don't even want the multipurpose centre that still stands unfinished
A project to build a multipurpose centre in Madidi village in Madibeng municipality, North West – with a budget of just under R7.2m – has seen four contractors leave the construction work unfinished.
The latest contractor, Maesela Khwinana, claims the municipality terminated his services before he could halt construction himself due to nonpayment. But the municipality says all contracts were terminated due to poor workmanship.
Madibeng municipality has been under administration since July last year, and it was among the municipalities that had invested money with the VBS bank.
