Overcrowded school still makes plenty of room for As

With the help of their dedicated teacher, pupils at the Gauteng school bagged distinctions against the odds

For pupils at Unity Secondary School in Daveyton, weekends and school holidays were lost as they focused on their matric exams. For them, the theme of 2019 was hard work.

And that – with the incredible support and affirmation from teachers – paid off. Despite limited resources and overcrowded classrooms, pupils from the school in the east of Johannesburg beat the odds and bagged multiple distinctions in the 2019 matric finals.

Lehlogonolo Molatudi credits affirmation from her teacher, Mashudu Mashego, and classmates to push her to work harder. She obtained seven distinctions, and now hopes to be admitted at Wits University to study medicine...
