Christmas tree hugger’s wishlist is all plastic

The six-year-old wants to collect 300 cubic metres plastic before Christmas to try to save the turtles


While most six-year-olds will have the latest toys and gadgets on Santa’s wishlist, all Jennifer Kenyon-Wimbush wants for Christmas is plastic – 300 cubic metres of it.

The young eco-warrior from Claremont, Cape Town, collects plastic for recycling to do her part to save aquatic animals from consuming it. She has collected 255m³ to date, and wants another 45m³ to reach 300m³ by Christmas.

“Sometimes they [turtles] think the plastic is jellyfish, and they eat it and get sick and die,” Jennifer said this week. “I want to save all the animals from being killed and to make them stay in nature. I want to save the turtles.” ..
