Court gives RAF vet klap after accident victim underpaid

Fund made to shell out double after woman had to approach the high court to get a proper compensation


The Road Accident Fund (RAF) has been called out for trying to lowball a payout, after it tried to give an accident victim about half of what the court deemed would cover her medical costs and damages.

On Thursday, the Bloemfontein High Court ordered that the RAF pay R700,000 to the woman, who was still suffering from chronic pain following her accident.

In his ruling, Judge Mpina Mathebula said the RAF needed to be cautious in determining the value of payouts, but it had undervalued the costs required for the woman’s injuries and continued treatment...
