Deprived rural area wins two major battles in war on Aids

What’s more, these remarkable victories were achieved in the space of one week

It’s one of the most deprived areas of the country, but in the space of a week, a KwaZulu-Natal municipality has chalked up two notable victories in the war on Aids.

A week ago, health minister Zweli Mkhize said by the end of the year, uMkhanyakude would have achieved the UNAids 90-90-90 target.

This means health workers are diagnosing 90% of all HIV-positive people, providing antiretroviral therapy (ART) for 90% of those diagnosed, and achieving viral suppression for 90% of those treated...
