Lights, camera, action against gender violence in KZN bars and taverns

Technology will soon be installed at venues regarded as gender-based violence hotspots in the province

KwaZulu-Natal MEC for economic development Nomusa Dube-Ncube has announced a plan to install CCTV cameras in bars and taverns in the fight against gender-based violence.

Dube-Ncube was speaking at a stakeholders engagement between her department and various gaming, alcohol and gambling organisations in Durban on Tuesday.

“I wish to inform the people of KZN that we have agreed on an urgent need to install CCTV cameras in taverns, nightclubs, on our streets, workplaces, recreational centres and other places as part of efforts to turn around the situation,” she said...
