Township preschool staff get something to chew on

Since receiving vital training on nutrition, teachers and guardians have seen improved attendance


The preparation of nutritious meals is yielding positive results, with Rossinah Malope, principal at the Chosen preschool and daycare, saying she is seeing improved attendance since changing the way she prepares meals.

Malope, who has been running the school in Katlehong, east of Johannesburg, for 10 years, says she now understands that it’s possible to prepare healthy meals on a small budget. In the past, she used a lot of water with the aim of stretching meals while preparing them.

“We wanted to make enough meals with minimum ingredients and didn’t realise that was not doing any good to the children. They used to constantly be sick. But ever since we changed our menu, I’m seeing improved attendance,” Malope said...
