Businessman faces huge bill after 23rd failed bid to keep mansion

Three court judgments involving a litigious Cape Town businessman, Gary van der Merwe, have brought the score to 23-0 in favour of the liquidators of one of his companies.

The punitive costs awarded against the 58-year-old in the three Cape Town High Court cases mean even though he represented himself, he faces a legal bill running into millions of rand.

He also faces possible eviction from his Cape Town mansion, Zonnekus on Woodbridge Island in Milnerton, where he has lived since 1999. He advertised the house for R39m in 2011...
