Top principal suspended after pupils say he is ‘racist’

The KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) education department has placed a distinguished headmaster on precautionary suspension after pupils claimed he was racist.

Violence erupted at Glenhaven Secondary in Verulam, north of Durban in August when pupils protested against the erection of security gates on the school premises between classroom buildings.

The police used rubber bullets and teargas to disperse the pupils, who also stoned a teacher’s car, set fire to rubbish bins and threw stones at security officers and emergency workers who responded to the protest. ..
