Doctor being probed for 8 child deaths, but he’s getting an award anyway

Controversial paediatrician Prof Peter Beale, under  investigation for the deaths of eight children and the maiming of 11 others, is to receive an award from fellow paediatric colleagues for his contribution to SA’s medical field.

The ceremony, to be held on Saturday in Johannesburg, will honour some of the country’s top paediatricians for their contributions to the medical field and the lives of children they have helped.

The ceremony’s organiser and fellow paediatrician, Dr Lucia Singh, said as a paediatric surgeon, Beale had contributed to saving the lives of thousands of children over his “extensive and exemplary” 40-year career...
