Workshops for GPs give family practice a shot in the arm

Joburg doctor on a mission to plug knowledge gap among GPs who lack experience in family medicine

A Johannesburg doctor is on a mission to give more muscle to general practitioners in SA, and has kick-started her own intervention to do just that.

Dr Samantha Fee told Times Select “the lack of a state-managed GP programme” in a country where so few had access to private medical care was a major problem.

She said medical students did their three years of internship and community service – which are “highly disparate” – and “can then register as a GP with no experience in the subtle forms of family medicine”...
