Victory for waste pickers who cried foul over soccer club land

Recycling non-profit operating on club premises saved from eviction in fight with Joburg Property Company

A court interdict granted against the Joburg Property Company went a long way to restoring the dignity of more than 6,000 waste pickers working throughout the city, said the head of non-profit organisation WastePreneurs, Steve Jourdan.

The NPO brought the urgent application in the High Court in Joburg to stop JPC from evicting them from the premises leased by Pirates Club in Greenside.  

He said that although this case was about the 110 waste pickers operating from a portion of land in Greenside from which the Pirates Club operates, this was a landslide victory for all waste pickers...
