Fashion models’ body image is no walk on the runway

A study on body self-perceptions suggests models too have concerns about their figures

Despite the perception that models have “perfect” figures, even they grapple with body image.

When researchers from the University of California and the Laureate Institute for Brain Research in Oklahoma wanted to test an app they created to measure body image, they went to the experts – fashion models.

Sixty-five women models signed to professional modelling agencies in London were asked to step off the runway and into a laboratory to help researchers study Somatomap, a mobile and desktop app designed to research body image and ultimately help doctors treat patients with eating and body dysmorphic disorders...
