The DA has been plunged into a leadership crisis after two of its top office-bearers quit their positions as unhappiness about strong woman Helen Zille continued to tear the party apart.

The beleaguered Mmusi Maimane quit as the DA’s national leader at a dramatic federal executive meeting on Wednesday, where he resisted overtures from provincial leaders for him to stay the course until an early federal congress scheduled for next year.

It’s understood Maimane’s offer to stay on as parliamentary leader was due to be discussed on Thursday morning at a party caucus meeting. Insiders said Maimane’s desire to continue leading the parliamentary structure was likely to be rejected since he made it clear he no longer believes in the party. ..
