Lawyers for the family of 10-year-old Zayyaan Sayed, who died hours after a prominent Johannesburg paediatric surgeon operated on him, are preparing to wage a legal battle against SA’s health regulator and some of the country’s biggest hospital groups.
Zayyaan, who had a routine laparoscopic operation to stop reflux at Netcare’s Park Lane Clinic in Johannesburg, died on October 11.
His surgeon, Prof Peter Beale, and the anaesthetist, Dr Abdulhay Munshi, have had their practising and admission rights at all Netcare facilities temporarily suspended by the hospital group pending an internal investigation...
