Putting out a fire was never easier, thanks to SA man’s spark of genius

It’s as easy as carrying around a litre of milk or a large packet of crisps, but the nifty idea to use a pouch filled with vinegar and bicarbonate of soda is set to decrease fire risk in densely populated areas.

With his Put It Out Mini Fire Extinguisher design, Randburg resident Toli Altounis came third and received R750,000 in prize money at the SA Breweries (SAB) Social Innovation Awards last week. The money laid the foundations for his business, adding a level of credibility and exposure to his product.
