Plans are afoot to make Grade 3 and 6 pupils write national common exams for all subjects at the end of the year that will be set by external examiners.

This was revealed by basic education minister Angie Motshekga during a briefing on the General Education Certificate (GEC) for Grade 9s in parliament on Tuesday.

Currently, only matric pupils write national common exams – Grade 3 and 6 pupils mostly write exams set by their respective schools...
