Zandile Gumede ‘still awaiting charges’ after Hawks raid her home

Former eThekwini mayor insists she is poor and that the raid is a smear campaign

Journalist

Former eThekwini mayor Zandile Gumede says the Hawks are yet to furnish her with a charge sheet, five months after she was initially arrested and appeared in court on counts of fraud and corruption related to a R208m Durban Solid Waste tender deal.

Speaking to Times Select on Thursday just hours after members of the Hawks, the National Intervention Unit and the National Prosecuting Authority’s Asset Forfeiture Unit stormed her Inanda home to attach her property.

“I’m still awaiting for the charges. I am going to be glad once I see the charges because I was arrested without charges and they said I must wait for them. Instead of the charges, here comes the Hawks to check the properties that I own and everything.”..
