Cape Town to be carpeted in succulent that sucks up carbon

Cape Town is set to disappear under a green carpet formed by an “indigenous wonder plant”.

The city council’s climate change portfolio committee has agreed that parks department nurseries should propagate 100,000 spekboom plants.

Greg Peck, the committee’s deputy chairperson, proposed that the water-wise succulents – feted for their ability to store carbon – should be given to residents to plant in their gardens...
