Eye care is just not in sight for more than a billion people

World Health Organisation report reveals just how big the problem is, and how it should be fixed

More than a billion people are blind to the interventions that could help correct their sight.

The World Health Organisation’s first World report on vision, which was launched on Tuesday afternoon, found that at least 2.2 million people have vision impairment or blindness, more than one billion of whom could have been prevented or have yet to be addressed.

WHO director-general Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said eye conditions and vision impairment were widespread, and far too often they still went untreated...
