University of the Western Cape is opening a first-of-its-kind clothing store to encourage locals to buy local

One university is leading the drive to encourage South Africans to buy locally made clothes in  a bid to ensure the survival of the textile industry.

The University of the Western Cape (UWC) has partnered with Wear SA – a movement of local fashion industry activists – to open a first-of-its-kind clothing store on campus.

Charleen Duncan, director of UWC’s Centre for Entrepreneurship and Innovation, said the store – at the community health science faculty – was prompted by a “need to have local clothing more accessible students”...
