The “Battle of Boet Erasmus”‚ which almost came to define the Springboks’ 1995 Rugby World Cup (RWC) triumph‚ has become the stuff of legend.
The brawl in the second half of the RWC pool match –which saw Canada's Rod Snow and Gareth Rees and South Africa's James Dalton all red-carded – is etched in the memory of those who witnessed it. Yet the Springboks still beat Canada 20-0 at the Boet Erasmus Stadium in Port Elizabeth that night.
