Lockdown: Rugby bosses play it safe as Etzebeth saga hots up

While SA Rugby worries about 'protecting the organisation', Boks insist they are only thinking about their next game

SA Rugby insisted on Thursday it could “not just suspend” Springbok lock Eben Etzebeth despite its decision to institute an internal probe into allegations of assault and racial abuse.

A day before the Boks’ crucial Rugby World Cup pool match against Italy in Japan, captain Siya Kolisi seemed unprepared when reporters quizzed him about Etzebeth –while parliament in Cape Town warned that the investigation should not distract the Springboks from the game.
