Health department hits back at ‘ungovernable’ private sector
The department says it has in fact been ‘vindicated’ by the inquiry that blamed it for ‘inadequate stewardship’
The health department has hit back at the Health Market Inquiry, whose findings blamed the government for “inadequate stewardship” of the private sector and not doing enough to regulate private hospitals, doctors and medical aids.
The department on Wednesday said when it tried to regulate the sector, it was dragged to court, adding the private sector used legal threats to drag out the inquiry by more than two years.
