Woman’s dream R800,000 new car turns into a nightmare
First it refused to start, then it was ‘stolen’ from the dealership, then she had to still pay for it as ombud dithered
Cheryl Modise, 41, of Pretoria was over the moon in June after purchasing her dream vehicle, a brand new Range Rover Evoque.
But within a month of purchase, the R800,000 car she bought would not start, and it was found abandoned in Soweto – while she was under the impression it was still at the dealership.
What ensued was an unsuccessful attempt to cancel the sale of the vehicle, and even the Motor Industry Ombudsman of SA (Miosa) has now retracted its original ruling in favour of the dealership...
