Cross-dressing and transgender youngsters are likely to shy away from clinics administering sexual and reproductive health services because they are judged by nurses and other patients.

University of KwaZulu-Natal master’s graduate Sthembiso Pollen Mkhize delved into the use of sexual health services by lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) students in Durban for his research.

Mkhize said the research conducted for his master’s degree in population studies gave him the opportunity to examine the disproportionate burdens borne by sexual minorities, such as the LGBT community, when using sexual and reproductive health services...
