There’s no evidence that ‘Mr Crispa’ beat up his neighbour, court finds

The businessman has been acquitted of serious assault charges


The Randburg Magistrates’ Court has acquitted Juan Lerena on an assault charge he faced for allegedly beating his neighbour, Roland du Trevou.

The court in August found Lerena not guilty of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm after his legal counsel, advocate Deon Pool, filed a section 174 application, which allows the accused to be acquitted of charges after the state concludes its case.

This is done when the defence feels that the state failed to prove its case beyond reasonable doubt and makes the application before presenting their case to court...
