Probe finds special needs schools in ‘shocking’ state

Rights commission gives North West and national departments deadline to fix the deadly situation


The state of infrastructure at special needs schools in North West, in particular hostels, poses “a direct and imminent threat” to the health and safety of pupils with disabilities, an investigation by the SA Human Rights Commission has found.

The commission has given the national and provincial department of education various timeframes to improve the situation.
