Forget matric, running a broadcaster is 90% ‘talent’, says Hlaudi

Appearing before Zondo, Motsoeneng was unapologetic about his relationship with the Guptas


He enjoys the Guptas’ curries, he is so talented that he does not need a matric certificate, and he doubts public protector Thuli Madonsela’s sanity – with “due respect”.

This was the gist of Hlaudi Motsoeneng’s testimony before the state capture inquiry in Johannesburg on Tuesday, where he defended the controversial policies he put in place while serving as the SABC’s chief operations officer.

His tenure included “many meetings” with the Guptas, a decision to stop the broadcasting of violent protests that cast the government in a bad light, a policy to give 90% of airtime to local content and a finding by Madonsela that he committed fraud in his job application...
