A Cape Town doctor who sexually assaulted a colleague after giving her a date-rape drug has been banned from working in public hospitals and clinics for four years.

The health department sanction – which does not stop Govender working privately – emerged at a Health Professions Council of SA disciplinary committee.

The committee gave Srinivasan Govender, 51, a suspended sentence which means he will be struck off the roll of medical practitioners if he offends again within the next five years...
