When South Africans celebrate Heritage Day on September 24, they traditionally unite around soccer and rugby (and the braai).

But every day this spring month, skateboarding is going beyond traditional sports in bringing people together on the streets, and transforming lives.

With only a board needed to escape into the freewheeling sport, skating is surging in popularity in Cape Town and  other cities across the country...
