The broadcaster is trying to turn itself around, but the government does little about it, says Bongumusa Makhathini
The SABC’s turnaround strategy is being stifled by a lack of support from the government, the state capture inquiry heard on Monday.
The public broadcaster is still awaiting feedback on a funding application it made to the government in November 2017. Since then, the SABC has tried to retrench some of its staff – a bid to cut down spending on salaries, which amounts to 45% of its total expenditure – but was blocked by the government.
