Teacher accused of breaking pupil’s finger goes AWOL from school

Principal questions why the incident is referred to as corporal punishment, as department launches a probe

A Mpumalanga teacher who allegedly hit a Grade 3 pupil so hard she broke his finger has not been at the school since the provincial education department was informed of the incident two weeks ago.

The pupil, from Liguguletfu Primary School in Nkomazi, is still battling to bend his finger after it was broken on May 22, his mother said on Tuesday.

Her son, who attends physiotherapy sessions, was allegedly hit as punishment for not completing a task in class...
