Why has Mkhwebane got Cyril’s bank statements?

All she asked for was info on Gavin Watson’s donation but she got two years’ worth of records, his lawyers say

President Cyril Ramaphosa’s lawyers have accused the national financial intelligence unit of unlawfully providing his bank account statements to public protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane.

The lawyers have also asked Pretoria High Court deputy judge president Aubrey Ledwaba to seal the Financial Intelligence Centre’s report on his election campaign accounts, on the basis that it is “confidential and relates to the personal affairs of the individuals mentioned in those documents”.

The FIC was established by the Financial Intelligence Centre Act and is mandated to identify the proceeds of crime, and combat money laundering and terror financing through the analysis of financial data and provision of financial intelligence to the authorities...
