SA Red Cross Society on the brink of its own disaster

KZN office in turmoil after staff mutiny led to cars being stolen and donor cash funnelled out illegally, it is alleged


A coup d’etat at the KwaZulu-Natal office of the South African Red Cross Society is threatening the continued existence of the 98-year-old humanitarian aid agency.

This comes amid allegations that about R1.6m of donor money has been siphoned off into a private account and is being used “unlawfully”.

The finance manager of the organisation in SA also alleges that those who hijacked the provincial office have been selling off vehicles, have changed locks and remote-control access to the Durban North headquarters and changed its internet server address...
