Vrede dairy farm ‘hasn’t yet bellowed its final moo’

The Gupta-linked farm could still be viable, the man at the heart of the project tells the state capture commission

It’s not yet over for the controversial Vrede dairy project.

This is the view of former Free State Agriculture head of department Peter Thabethe, who told the state capture inquiry on Tuesday that the project – once a cash cow for the Gupta family – still had the potential to serve its intended purpose of uplifting the lives of small-scale farmers.

This is despite the farm’s main facility, a milk-processing processing plant, being mostly incomplete...
