What3words can do: deliver a pizza and save a life without an address

The service is used by 36 police services in the UK, by India’s ‘Uber', Mongolian nomads and now SA’s ER24

Emergency services ER24 on Monday announced a partnership with “what3words”, a UK-based company that has found an innovative way to pinpoint any location in the world.

The UK company has divided the entire world into 57 trillion squares and given each square a three-word name. It has created a free app that can tell a person what his or her three-word address is. 

“Some of the informal settlements we get called out to do not have street names. Usually, someone will meet us at a particular landmark and show us how to get from there. But having an application that will take us to the exact spot will change our response times,” said ER24’s Jaco Kaalsen. ..
