Former cabinet minister Jeff Radebe is said to have given the first push to force Mxolisi Nxasana out of the national director of public prosecutions (NDPP) office in 2014.

Radebe, who was justice minister at the time, is also said to have rubbished warnings from Nxasana of an ongoing campaign within the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) to have him ousted, dismissing it as a “figment of [his] imagination”.

Testifying for the second time at the state capture inquiry on Monday, Nxasana – who held the post of NDPP for about two years between 2013 and 2015 – said he was summoned to Radebe’s Pretoria office for a meeting some time in 2014...
