Wife-killer Rohde’s rugby jaunt on expired passport sinks his bail bid

Releasing him on bail would be a mockery of the criminal justice system, says judge

Wife-murderer Jason Rohde travelled to England to watch the Rugby World Cup using an expired passport in 2015. But the trip came back to haunt him on Thursday.

The High Court in Cape Town used that transgression, among other issues, to deny bail pending his appeal against his conviction and a 20-year prison sentence.

Judge Gayaat Salie-Hlophe jailed Rohde in February for the murder of his wife, Susan. The former property executive was also handed a five-year sentence for defeating the ends of justice for making the murder scene look like a suicide...
