Textbooks are out, augmented reality is in for African kids

An app that helps bring learning material to life has been launched with much aplomb

The humble chalkboard could be making way for an augmented reality app that aims to “gamify” learning African languages, pushing the boundaries in early childhood development.

Johannesburg developer Ambani – an African language content platform for young pupils – has produced the augmented reality tool and a set of 20 flashcards.

When viewed through the app, the cards spring to life with an image of the animal, its name and the sound it makes...
