Bid to stop private adoptions draws huge backlash

Activists want a reworking of the Children's Act Amendment Bill, which is set to remove the adoption fee clause

More than 50,000 South Africans don’t want the government to pass the controversial Children’s Act Amendment Bill, which could spell the end of private adoptions.

Cape Town lawyer and children’s rights activist Debbie Wybrow has been fighting against the proposed changes in the bill since it was submitted to parliament earlier in 2019.

She started an online petition on change.org calling on South Africans to help stop the bill from being passed into law...
