Krugersdorp killer ‘was a wealthy maths whizz’

The childhoods of convicted Krugersdorp killers Cecilia Steyn, Zak Valentine and Marcel Steyn came under the spotlight during sentencing proceedings in court on Monday.
Cecilia claimed her father – who has steadfastly supported her throughout the trial – abused her as a child. Marcel’s stepmother testified that she was a loving and caring child who had been ruined by her mom. Valentine’s parents – a school principal and retired architect – told a social worker they still could not fathom how their son could have become involved in the gruesome four-year murder spree. Perhaps they were too overprotective, the parents said.
The court also heard that alleged mastermind Cecilia has now found new love in prison, that Valentine had studied actuarial sciences at the University of North West and earned about R70,000 per month before the killings began, and that Marcel loved animals when she was a child...
