SABC staff who were Hlaudi’s pets could face a whipping

Thirty-four SABC staff face court review after being promoted irregularly. And that's just the start of it


A commission of inquiry into editorial interference at the SABC has recommended that the public broadcaster review all cases of employees who were fired, promoted or had their salaries increased irregularly by former COO Hlaudi Motsoeneng.

The commission, set up in May last year and chaired by veteran journalist Joe Thloloe, released its final report at the SABC offices in Johannesburg on Monday.

The commission singled out general manager for TV news Nothando Maseko, general manager for radio news Sebolelo Ditlhakanyane and national news editor Nyana Molete as being “pivotal” to the execution of instructions from Motsoeneng and his right-hand men. The report recommended that an audit of the appointments, promotions or sideway shifts of the three be conducted...
