No, you can’t have an LGBTIQ club, top school tells pupils

A 'prominent' Durban school has locked horns with a group of pupils who want to start the support group

A request by a group of schoolgirls to start a lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex and queer/questioning (LGBTIQ) group or Gay-Straight Alliance in their school has made it to the KwaZulu-Natal Legislature.

Democratic Alliance MPL Heinz de Boer in late July moved a motion calling for education MEC Kwazi Mshengu to ensure school governing bodies are sensitive to the needs of LGBTIQ pupils and support their efforts to establish such groups.

On Facebook, De Boer said he had dedicated his motion to the group of girls of a “prominent Durban school”...
