Macho male stereotypes are keeping more men from seeking professional help for anxiety disorders.

While statistics show women are twice as likely to suffer from anxiety disorders, experts say the reason is more social than scientific.

SA Society of Psychiatrists (Sasop) member Dr Ian Westmore said women were more eager to speak out and seek help while men suffered in silence because society expected them to “man up” and adopt the “boys don’t cry” mentality...
