Iceberg water plan drifts closer to reality

Surge in interest among investors and scientists could lead to a big first for SA, says the man behind the ambitious plan

Iceberg water on tap may be closer than you think, according to SA salvor-turned-iceberg pirate Nick Sloane.

A recent surge of investor interest in the ambitious plan to tow Antarctic icebergs to the Cape suggests SA could very well be the first country to harvest fresh water from the polar caps, according to Sloane who detailed his project at the Cape Town Press Club last week.

Sloane said he had met various banking stakeholders in the past few months, and fielded enquiries from others. Interested parties include Nedbank, Old Mutual and Growthpoint...
