SA storm chasers head to Antarctic for cold, hard data

Ninety-five scientists are aboard the government’s research and supply vessel for its winter cruise

Passengers cruising from Cape Town on Thursday are hoping for storms, gales and monster waves.

That’s because they are scientists, and their ship is heading for the Antarctic to measure the cyclones that lash the icy continent in the middle of winter.

Another team aboard the SA Agulhas II will be studying how the ship and its passengers respond to the slamming of waves...
