This was Shailendra Sukhraj’s ugly truth as he sat listening to the evidence in the trial of Sibonelo Mhkize, 39 – a self-confessed dagga dealer who had already served time in prison for being in possession of a stolen car – now accused of the murder of his nine-year-old daughter Sadia in a botched hijacking.

Mkhize reportedly matriculated from St Benedict’s private school in Pinetown. Why he turned to crime is unclear. It was noted that he was articulate and had a good education...
